Earthworks has introduced its newest microphones for drum miking, including the DM20 DrumMic for close miking toms and snare, as well as several multi-microphone kits.

The new DM20 DrumMic is a cardioid condenser microphone designed for close miking toms and snare in live performance and recording environments. It has a 150dB SPL rating and flat 50Hz-20kHz frequency response. Machined out of stainless steel, Earthworks says the DM20 is capable of withstanding a stray stick hit. A right angle microphone head allows the user to position the microphone precisely, while the stiff yet flexible gooseneck will stay put even with the most energetic drummer. Each DM20 microphone ships with an RM1 RimMount for mounting the microphone directly on the rim of a snare or toms.

Also new to the line are the revamped CloseMic Kits, which package DM20 microphones with RM1 RimMounts, windscreens and a rugged carrying case. The CMK4 comes with four DM20 microphones and accessories. The CMK5 comes with five DM20 microphones and accessories.

The DK7 DrumKit is a seven-microphone kit comprised of four DM20 microphones for toms and snare, two SR25 microphones for overheads, and one specially engineered low sensitivity SR20LS for kick drum.

Line 6 probably isn’t the first brand you’d think of when it comes to radio microphones, but the company has been steadily developing its range of wireless products and the latest offering, the V75-40V handheld comes with an Earthworks WL40V hyper-cardioid capsule. Designed to deliver studio-quality performance in a wireless microphone, the hand-tuned and tested WL40V capsule from Earthworks promises lightning-fast impulse response, high SPL handling and a wide frequency range. The hyper-cardioid polar pattern provides “exceptional” detail and nuance, resulting in vocals that require little to no EQ. The rest of the V75-40V package includes up to 14 channels to choose, 24 bit 10Hz–20kHz frequency response, backlit LCD display, a lock-out switch and Transmitter Naming for identifying transmitters in a multi-system application. The mic has a metal body and comes in a custom hard-shell touring case. The one thing you don’t get in comparison to Line 6’s other hand-held wireless products is the in-built microphone modeling – not surprising.
