IK Multimedia has announced AmpliTube TONEX, a complete software ecosystem based on the powerful new AI Machine Modelling technology that lets users model their own rig and play, practice, and record with thousands of already available ultra-realistic Tone Models of amps and pedals.

AmpliTube TONEX ecosystem consists of 4 products:

TONEX for Mac/PC
A revolutionary concept in rig modelling, and the core of the TONEX ecosystem, TONEX for Mac/PC uses breakthrough AI Machine Modelling technology to let users model the sound of any amp, cabinet, combo or pedal (like fuzz, distortion, overdrive, EQ, booster) and turn it into a plug-in, all with ease and a sonic accuracy that’s virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.

Users can not only share their user-generated Tone Models with the TONEX community, but they can also instantly play through more than 1,000 Premium Tone Models available in TONEX. These have been painstakingly created by IK, using its massive collection of the most sought-after amps and pedals in the world. TONEX for Mac/PC works as a stand-alone, as a plug-in for all major DAWs, and also runs seamlessly inside AmpliTube 5 — with Tone Models appearing just like regular AmpliTube gear. 

TONEX has two main sections: the Machine Modeller, where the AI Machine Modelling Tone Models are captured and generated, and the Player, where the Tone Models can be searched, browsed, played, and customised. The Player’s extensive sound-editing section comes with full EQ, noise-gate, pre and post compressor, as well as depth and presence controls, a high-quality reverb, and VIR — IK’s Volumetric Impulse Response technology with multi-IRs per cabinet. 

Thanks to AI Machine Modelling, amps and cabinets captured as Tone Models can also be separated so users can experiment with their own IRs, or use IK’s VIR technology to access hundreds of authentic virtual cabs and IRs to complete their tone. All of this customisation can then be saved into a Tone Model preset.

Consistent with all major software from IK, TONEX for Mac/PC will be available in 3 versions — all with identical features, but a different number of Premium Tone Models included. TONEX SE (200 Tone Models), TONEX (400 Tone Models), TONEX MAX (1,000 Tone Models). A free version will also be available for everyone to experience the power of AI Machine Modelling for creating Tone Models.

TONEX App
TONEX for iPhone and iPad lets users experience the power of AI Machine Modelling Tone Models on their mobile devices. It is available both as a stand-alone app, or as an AU plug-in for all major mobile DAWs. This includes the same exact Player section as the TONEX Mac/PC software allowing users to play, practice, and record anywhere. The TONEX App and Mac/PC software Tone Model library work in sync, so the user’s collection of Tone Models can be played on any device, in the studio, at home, or on the go.

TONEX in ToneNET
TONEX Tone Models will also be available in a new dedicated section of ToneNET, IK’s online tone-sharing and social platform for browsing, demoing, downloading, and sharing. Over 1,000 TONEX Premium Tone Models will be available in ToneNET for instant demo or download within the TONEX software or app, depending on the version owned. New Tone Models from IK — and free user models from the TONEX community — will be continuously posted and available in real time, for an expanding repository of tones.

TONEX standalone, plug-in and app, connect instantly to ToneNET from directly inside the software or app, allowing users to explore the latest Tone Models without breaking their creative workflow. TONEX Tone Models can also be experienced in ToneNET using a regular online browser and selected for subsequent downloads in the computer software or mobile device app.

TONEX Capture
Tone Models can be created in TONEX using a computer, an audio interface, and minimal additional equipment. An interface such as AXE I/O is ideal for tone modelling with its dedicated Amp Out.

To make it easy for everyone to create Tone Models, IK’s new all-in-one TONEX Capture is an accessory that connects to the output of an audio interface to feed into an amp at just the right level. The return stage sits passively between the amp and cab, sending a perfect copy back to the interface at a safe volume without affecting the amp/cab interaction. The result is a pristine copy of the amp’s real tone, ready for TONEX modelling without the need for microphones or perfect room acoustics. TONEX Capture also doubles as a great re-amping device, and includes TONEX SE with 200 Tone Models.

Waves Audio announces the new V13 for all Waves SoundGrid applications. This release includes two brand-new applications: Waves MyFOH, a tablet app for remote control of the Waves eMotion LV1 live mixer; and Waves mRecall, a mobile app for remote snapshot/scene recall of Waves live sound (eMotion LV1 & SuperRack) and Waves Commercial Audio systems. Additionally, V13 includes updated versions of the following Waves SoundGrid applications: eMotion LV1 live mixer, SuperRack live plugin rack, MyMon personal monitor mixing app, SoundGrid QRec app for live recording and playback, and SoundGrid Studio.

The new Waves MyFOH tablet app has been a feature frequently requested by live sound engineers who use the Waves eMotion LV1 live mixer. MyFOH allows front-of-house engineers to control the LV1 over WiFi, from any iPad or Android tablet, and shape the live mix from anywhere in the venue. With MyFOH, engineers can evaluate their mix from the vantage point of the audience and adjust levels, panning and much more, for individual channels as well as groups, auxes, FX groups, DCAs and matrixes. MyFOH also allows to correct levels for front fills and delays, which are almost impossible to judge confidently from the static FOH position. If you are handling both FOH and monitor duties at the same show, you can also use MyFOH next to the musicians on stage rather than attempting effective communication from across the venue, creating a more personal, nuanced and professional experience for all involved. 

The new Waves mRecall is an iOS/Android app for quickly recalling scenes and snapshots created on Waves’ live systems and Waves’ Commercial Audio systems. Working over WiFi on both mobile phones and tablets, mRecall is a quick way to recall preprogrammed audio settings, both in live shows and in AV installations. In live shows, mRecall allows to remotely recall snapshots created on the Waves eMotion LV1 live mixer or the Waves SuperRack live plugin rack. On installed Waves Commercial Audio systems, mRecall allows end users to recall preprogrammed snapshots, without needing access to the equipment rack.

In addition, V13 features updates to Waves’ existing SoundGrid applications:

• The Waves SuperRack live plugin rack now supports up to four active and four redundant Waves SoundGrid servers, running together on one Waves SoundGrid live processing system. This allows live sound engineers to massively expand their processing power for live shows.

• The Waves eMotion LV1 live mixer now supports the aforementioned MyFOH and mRecall remote apps. The new V13 update also adds several more features requested by users, including new routing and channel selection options.

• All Waves SoundGrid applications, including the MyMon personal monitor mixing app and the SoundGrid QRec app for live recording and playback, feature additional bug fixes and performance improvements.

Digital mixers offer studio quality processing, total recall of all settings and even remote operation. All attractive features, thought often coming at the cost of increased size.

Typical applications very often just need to balance the level of a handful of sources. So, why making things more complicated than they need to be? It is time for something new providing modern features and workflows in a simple and light form – enter FLOW 8.

EZ-GAIN ASSISTED GAIN STAGING

Have you ever heard someone say, “you need to pay attention to your gain staging”? Do you know what the “gain structure” is about? When you are interested in clean and healthy signals, with low noise and low harmonic distortion, then adjusting the right amount of preamp gain is paramount. Since source signals can be anything from a strong hit on the snare drum, to the subtle hum of bees, there is not one gain fitting all possible purposes.

Gain staging is always a compromise and finding the right one requires either experience and technical knowledge, or the new FLOW 8 EZ-GAIN feature. The function can monitor signals on one or all channels at the same time, until you think the loudest sounds have been put to it. EZ GAIN will then automatically adjust the channel gain to the optimum headroom.

EZ GAIN will automatically engage the 48 V phantom power on mic inputs 1/2 when no signal is coming in, just in case you forgot to do that. It will switch it off again if no signal is coming in still.

FULL APP REMOTE CONTROL

Let’s face it, small mixers are more often placed where cables end, rather than in a position where it would be most useful for controlling the mix. You may have to stretch out for controlling levels or walk away from the mixer to judge if your adjustment has the desired effect. No longer!

FLOW 8 mixers offer full remote control from Android or iOS devices, giving the freedom to go exactly where the sound is ideal for making any sort of adjustment. Tweak the 9-band EQ for the main PA speakers, set the compressor on the bass guitar or adjust the mix for the talents on stage.

The Korg Module series of iOS apps are equipped with a pro-grade sound library and can be used in the studio, for music lessons and when working live. With this major upgrade, Korg Module Pro and Korg Module now add a hybrid digital synthesizer and much-anticipated support for AUv3. Both Korg Module Pro and Korg Module can be updated to version 4 for free.
